About TROG

It’s more than just another cycle club.

TROG are a registered Community Amateur Sports Club. We are a Suffolk based Mountain Biking club who organise weekly rides around the trails and bridleways in Tunstall and Rendlesham Forests as well as other local venues and are custodians of arguably the best singletrack in Suffolk.

TROG is an inclusive club and we welcome everyone from racing snakes to people who prefer to enjoy a gentle trundle through the woods.

Main Aim

The object of TROG is to provide facilities for and promote participation of the whole community in the sport of mountain biking in Suffolk.

See our club charter for further information.

Club Rides

Anyone is welcome to join the weekly Sunday morning ride at The Viking Trail to get a feel for what the club is about and what we do.

These rides are aimed at riders of all abilities, and when the turnout is high we split into two or even three groups depending on experience and pace. Please see the club rides forum for details of where and when to meet.

While the Sunday rides aim to cater for all abilities, we can organise introductory/novice rides aimed at giving people a gentle first introduction to the world of mountain biking.  If you are interested in this please either post on the Visitor’s Lounge forum or contact a committee member directly.

In addition to the Sunday rides there are usually various other club rides organised throughout the week; night-rides, training rides and social rides.

Members events and rides

We organise regular club trips to other mountain biking venues (Wales, Peak District, to name a few), hold BBQs and dinners.

We have a racing contingent and have in the past hosted rounds of the Thetford Winter Series races and Mud Sweat & Gears.

Trail Building:

We are fully committed to working in partnership with the Forestry Commission to develop and maintain sustainable trails in Tunstall Forest.

In recognition of building this partnership with the Forestry Commission and the high standards and hard work over a number of years developing and maintaining trails in an environmentally sustainable and socially responsible way, we have opened a fully waymarked red grade 10-mile loop called the ‘Viking Trail’. Having this officially recognised trail protects it from damage by commercial harvesting and secures it for the future.

The club organises monthly trail building sessions in order to maintain the Viking trail and welcomes all to come along to get down and dirty and help keep it one of the best singletrack venues in the region!
