Hi,
I am a 50 year old man going through a mid-life crisis and have taken up mountain biking. I have entered the MSG race on 1st April and wanted to go for a ride at Tunstall this Saturday as I am dropping my wife at the Seckford Theatre in Woodbridge and have a few hours to kill. As I have never ridden here before I would like to know is it possible to park up near Fire Road 30 where the race will be and have a ride about. :?:

Thanks

Sparky

oh I think you're in good company - there's a few of us in the club doing the same ;-)

Yes, you can park at the entrance to FR30. The forecast is not so good for the weekend so PM Lanky and make sure he's OK abt the MSG route being ridden if wet. He wasn't so keen earlier in the month when work had just been done on it but I'm not sufficiently au fait with trail building and maintenance to say yay or nay.

Any chance you can get out for one of the Sunday rides?

If you take a look at the Street View on Google Maps you'll see that there is room for at least 4 cars near the gate at the entrance to FR30. In fact the red 'machine' photographed by FR30 belongs to a TROG member (but we don't like to 'name and shame' ;) ). Just give the two horses a wide berth when you are parking! ;)

Finding FR30 and finding the MSG loop are two different things. The course isn't exactly hidden but neither are there any markers out yet. There are also points where the MSG loop joins or departs from our regular loop - you could easily find part of the course and then make a wrong turn and end up riding the loop backwards and miss most of the MSG course. Can't you find time to join the ride on Sunday morning? I'd be surprised if one of the groups didn't ride the MSG course before heading back to the main trail (though best to check in the Rides section if this is what you plan).

Hi Guys,

Thank you to all your responses to my post.

I am not sure what time I will get there on Saturday and I definitely can't make it on Sunday. I have noticed on the Forum about Sandgalls car park and wondered whether there were some trails around there. I have been to Brandon recently as I live in the Sudbury area but do not know the Woodbridge area at all.

Thank you for your help and offers of guiding me around Tunstall. Perhaps I should join the club and join you on the occassional rides.

Sparky :)

Now that's the attitude!

We tend to use Sandgalls as the parking place for many of our rides but the start of the single track is over 1km from the car park and it's not (yet) way-marked - the MSG course is even further from Sandgalls.

You don't have to be a member to ride with us on a Sunday, but as membership secretary I shouldn't really be dissuading anyone from joining! ;)

Why not just roll up one Sunday and come out with with us. If you like what Tunstall and TROG has to offer then you can sign-up.

We have lots of interesting stuff going on this year. The club is stronger than it has ever been (~120 members), we have approval from the Forestry Commission to way-mark (signpost) the main trail, we have members being formally trained as ride leaders, ...

Come on in - the water is lovely!

Yes, that loop's mine I tell you, mine, all mine!

And if I find out you've been riding it without my permission I'll come round your house and brick your windows!

Truth be told, a couple of Sundays back we had a bit of a trail manipulation session which was promptly followed by a downpour. If a group was taken round in the following few days they could have quite easily undone a lot of our hard work. However, I have been round a few times since then and it seems to have firmed up nicely so please feel free to ride it til the cows come home.

Cheers all.
